Dental Aid Programs

Over the past financial year, our network of volunteers provided pro bono dental treatment to 370 patients over 500 appointments, providing dental services worth $300,000.

Filling the Gap works in partnership with 25 charities to provide dental treatment to their clients who are in need, including victims of domestic violence, women and men who are living in hostels and people recovering from addiction. We have a network of dentists in NSW and the ACT who provide the treatment. Filling the Gap also runs a dental aid clinic in Sydney to treat referred patients from our charity partners. We rely on the generosity and expertise of dentists and dental professionals to treat patients on our waiting lists. If you are interested in volunteering at one of our clinics, see upcoming clinic dates.

If you need dental treatment and are not a client of one our charity partners, information on public dental services can be found here >. To find a private dentist who is a member of the Australian Dental Association, visit here>

Australian Dental Health Foundation (ADHF) programs

Filling the Gap administers the NSW and ACT programs for the Australian Dental Health Foundation. This involves two programs – Dental Rescue Days and Adopt a Patient.

Dental Rescue Days

Dentists and their staff provide pro bono dental care to a group of patients within their own practice. Patients are referred by local charities and not-for-profit organisations.

Adopt a Patient

Volunteer dentists and their staff are paired with one patient in need of more complex dental care and the practice will ‘adopt’ the patient over a few appointments to complete a course of pro bono treatment.

To find out more about ADHF programs, contact Claire Rawlinson on (02) 8436 9942 or

Australian Red Cross

We run regular dental aid clinics to treat asylum seekers in partnership with the Australian Red Cross. These clinics have been coordinated and supported by the NSW Branch of the Australian Dental Association for the past ten years. In that time, more than 1000 asylum seekers have received pro bono dental care worth $500,000.
